Techneverends - TikTok is testing the "Nearby" feed feature, the newest feature to show local content to users. Testing is limited and has only recently been rolled out to select users in Southeast Asia. Users who get this trial will see a feed tab between the "Following" and "For You" menus on the main page of the TikTok application.

Based on the information we quoted from TechCrunch, a TikTok spokesperson said TikTok is always thinking of new ways to improve the user experience and provide value to the TikTok community.

This is strengthened by the intensity of TikTok, which is currently testing a feature to allow users to add location tags to videos. It is stated that this feature will gradually be rolled out to all users globally. But unfortunately, there is no detailed information on whether this feature is a complement to the Nearby feed feature.

It is known that TikTok has developed a recommendation algorithm that allows users to get more personalized and relevant content. Coupled with the release of the Nearby feed, which will make TikTok even more competitive with competitors such as Snapchat's Snap Map and Instagram Search Map, which Meta recently launched. These features provide similar services to users to find content and exciting places according to the location they are looking for.

However, the development of the Nearby feed feature has the company Alphabet Inc. concerned because this feature can potentially affect their search engine. Based on the data, it was found that the younger generation users currently prefer to search for places to eat on Instagram and TikTok rather than using the Google search engine.

In addition, the Nearby feed feature can be an opportunity for local advertisers because the ads they create can be targeted to the nearest business or service location. Even though TikTok already displays ads in the feed, adding local ads allows advertisers to reach a wider audience.

As with testing other features, TikTok said that at the time of release, there is a possibility that the features being developed may change or even be removed for one reason or another. So don't have high hopes, folks. Let's wait for the final release while monitoring the development of its features.

TikTok is increasingly showing its fangs as a social networking platform to be reckoned with for technology companies like Google, Meta, and others. Interestingly, right?
